Grinder
Job Description
Matern Staffing is hiring a Grinder for a global manufacturer of automation systems for the plastics industry. In this hands-on manufacturing role, you’ll use power and hand tools to grind and clean welds, remove rough edges and surface imperfections, and prepare finished pieces for the next stage of production.
This opportunity offers an early weekday schedule with a shorter Friday. Some overtime may be available on Fridays.
Salary:
- $18-$20/hr
- Monday–Thursday, 6am-3pm
- Friday, 6am-10am
- Overtime opportunities may extend Friday hours until 3pm
- Use hand-held power grinders and other tools to grind, sand, clean, and smooth welds and metal surfaces
- Remove excess material, burrs, rough spots, sharp edges, and weld burns
- Inspect finished pieces to make sure surfaces are properly cleaned and finished
- Set up equipment and change grinding wheels or abrasives as needed
- Follow work instructions and specifications while completing finishing work
- Wear required PPE and follow OSHA and workplace safety procedures
- Ability to safely operate hand and power tools used for grinding and finishing
- Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail
- Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, and lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds
- Basic math skills and ability to follow blueprints or work instructions
- High school diploma or GED
- Preferred: 1–2 years of experience in metal finishing, manufacturing, machine operation, or similar hands-on production work
